This Thanksgiving holiday has been like no other, in the days of Covid. But there is a bright spot in my day — the nominations of senior leadership and cabinet officials to the Biden Administration. Today my optimism is buoyed by the naming of Janet Yellen to be Treasury Secretary. Not only is Yellen a well qualified economist with a track record in academia and the Federal Reserve, she also has experience in the analysis of economic policy to help working-class men and women.

Of course, an economist has to write wonky papers like The Fair Wage-Effort Hypothesis and Unemployment; for the tl;dr version you can see the words of Paul Krugman, writing in the New York Times.

Beyond that, Yellen has been an advocate of one of MalarkeyGuy’s favorite economic policies: The Baker-Shultz Carbon Dividends plan. Look for more on this in an upcoming blog post.
